Frequently Asked Questions
Who are the waiting communities in Ethiopia?
In Gondar and Addis Ababa live Jewish communities whose members left their villages — many decades ago — following a call to immigrate to Israel. They maintain an active Jewish life and are waiting for aliyah and reunification with first-degree relatives living in Israel.
Why are the families still waiting?
Despite government resolutions passed over the years, implementation has repeatedly stalled due to lack of budget, changes of government, and bureaucracy. The result: uncompleted eligibility checks, partial quotas, and families that remain torn apart.
What has the state decided in the past?
Among others, Government Resolution 716 of November 2015 unanimously resolved to bring the remainder of the waiting communities. Partial operations were later approved, including Operation Tzur Israel in 2020–2021. No resolution has been fully implemented.
What does the campaign demand now?
A clear government resolution with a timeline, a dedicated budget, fast and fair completion of eligibility checks, and family reunification in Israel.
